How Tavallio handles moments of crisis

Tavallio is an AI assistant. It can listen, help you think things through and take things off your plate, but it is not a person, a therapist or a medical service. When someone may be at risk, it points them to people who can help right away.

If you need help right now

  • United States: call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or text HOME to 741741. In an emergency, call 911.
  • United Kingdom: call Samaritans free on 116 123, text SHOUT to 85258, or call NHS 111. In an emergency, call 999.
  • Anywhere else: find a free, confidential line in your country at findahelpline.com, or call your local emergency number.

When the support card appears

If the assistant judges that someone may be at risk of hurting themselves or someone else, or of ending their life, it shows a card with the free crisis lines for their country, with buttons to call or text. The assistant keeps talking with them: it does not end the conversation or refuse to help. It does not show the card for ordinary sadness, stress, venting or a bad day.

The right numbers, every time

The lines on the card are fixed text chosen by country, never written by the AI, so a person in the UK is never shown a US number and the other way round. The same lines are always on the Support page of the Mood & Self-Care profile, for anyone, at any time.

What we record

Each time the card is shown we record that it was shown, the country and the date. We do not record what was said, and the record is kept without the person's identity once their account is deleted. We use these counts only to report how often the card was shown, as some laws require.

Always an AI, always clear about it

Tavallio says it is an AI whenever it is asked. Mood & Self-Care is for people aged 18 and over, does not diagnose or treat any condition, and is not a substitute for professional care. It can help you find a doctor or therapist near you.

Your moods and journal

Check ins, notes and journal entries are kept only for you, after you agree to it, and are never used for advertising or to train AI models. You can delete any of them, or your whole account, at any time. Read the Privacy Policy for more, or email support@tavallio.ai.
